2025 North American Championship

2025 Continental Championship Team Canada Selection Criteria

Background

The Continental Championship of the FIFG North American Region is taking place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico from August 14 to 17, 2025. The competition brings four countries together: Canada, U.S., Mexico, and Honduras. The purpose is to qualify men, senior men, and women teams for the 2026 World Cup. 3/4 countries qualify for men and senior men, and 2/4 countries qualify for women.

As a result, FootGolf Canada has created qualification criteria for the selection of Team Canada. This team will represent Canada at this competition. This qualification criteria is specific to only this team competition. World Cup 2026 qualification criteria for both team and individual players will be created thereafter.

The total available spots for this team competition are as follows:

Men: 5 starters (and up to 5 substitutes – 10 players maximum)

Senior Men (includes Senior Men Plus): 4 starters (and up to 4 substitutes – 8 players maximum)

Women: 3 starters (and up to 3 substitutes – 6 players maximum)

Team Selection Criteria

The selection criteria will be primarily results-based.

The below events will be used to assess player performance:

      • Any FIFG 500 or above until the end of June 2025
      • FIFG 100 – May 31
      • FIFG 100 – June 1
      • FIFG 100 – June 21
      • FIFG 100 – June 22

A player must attend at least one of the above events to be eligible for selection.

      1. Top Two Performances Count

Players can compete in multiple events, but only their best two results will be used for ranking.

A player’s top two scores can only include one international FIFG event. The other score must be from one of the four Canadian FIFG 100 events.

      2. Weighted Scoring

Any FIFG 500 event will receive higher weight in comparison to the FIFG 100 events. This is attributed to their greater significance as a test of skill and readiness for international competition. These events attract the best players who consistently perform at elite level. Performing well in a high-stakes event with stronger opponents is a better indicator of a player’s ability to compete on the world stage.

FIFG 500 event: 5.0 value

FIFG 100s: 1.0 value

      3. Captain’s Picks

Team Canada captain will be allocated 1 starter pick and 1 substitute pick for each category (men, senior men, and women).

A captain’s pick will be used to bring in an experienced player with past international experience, select a player who is peaking at the right time, even if their ranking isn’t the highest, and ensure strong team chemistry and strategic pairings.

Team Canada Requirements

If a player wants to be considered to represent Team Canada, the player will need to comply with FIFG requirements to play for Team Canada. The FIFG requirements are as follows:

  4.5.1 PLAYER REPRESENTATION

Players can represent an FIFG member country based on:

      • Passport
      • Residency (Minimum 2 years)

FootGolf Canada will require a copy of a passport or a copy of proof of residency for the last two years to be selected for Team Canada.
